Earthworms and Smiles

Yesterday I spent some time pulling the "sod" out of our backyard. The sod was put in two years ago, but last year it grew into a very lush field of clover. I anticipate creating some sort of northwest zen/vegetable garden in the coming days, so I had to clear out the old growth. In the process, the girls discovered several very healthy, very squirmy earthworms. Ella thought they were HILARIOUS, and Lauren worked diligently to build them homes in the dirt. A good time was had by all (except the earthworms I'm sure).

You ought to read Novella Carpenter's Farm City. It's about urban farming and will make you want to grow things and raise chickens. Maybe even start a beehive.
