The Cat

When we moved last summer we had to leave our cat, Tooncess, behind. She was about 19 years old and in failing health. We left her at Grandma Deanna's house where she stayed for a couple weeks before we had her put down. I've had Tooncess since I was 12 years old, so it was a painful loss for me. Lauren was (still is) very much attached to Tooncess. She kept asking me where her cat was, so I had many long conversations with her over the course of a few months trying to explain what happened to Tooncess. I was feeling pretty successful in my attempts when Lauren was able to repeat it all back to me: "My cat was at Grandma's house and got sick so Grandma took her to the doctor. The doctor didn't help my cat cuz she was too old and sick so my cat went to live with Jesus and she's not sick any more."
Lauren still talks about Tooncess and last week she made me smile when out of the blue she informed me that "Jesus needs to bring my cat back now." We miss you Tooncess!

That's cute! Hard concept to explain to little kids.

How awesome, though, that you got to share you childhood pet with your child. That doesn't happen very often.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear about Tooncess but I guess it was inevitable. Cute that Lauren thinks she should be returned now.
